Construction Management
Construction is one of the most costly parts of developing a new real estate project. People with a background in finance may be drawn to this career, because they will get to control the flow of money through the real estate project. Construction managers need to make many projections to determine how long a project will take, the cost of labor and materials, and other financial decisions. When the project is getting off target, the construction manager will need to come up with a solution for staying on budget.
Commercial Real Estate Analyst
With larger scale real estate projects, a financial analyst is crucial to making the right business decisions. Real estate analysts look at the current real estate market along with economic trends to predict whether a project will be profitable. They may work for a major developer or or their own.
Real Estate Broker
Similar to the real estate analysts, brokers do a lot of data manipulation to predict profits on real estate. However, a broker’s job is slightly different in that they may not work for a specific company or client. A broker can act as a go between for the buyers and sellers, taking a piece of the commission. To be successful, a broker will need to convince the buyer that the property will be a good investment.

Mortgage lenders may work in conjunction with real estate companies to ease the financial transactions involved. If you would like to be more personal with your clients, a mortgage lender may be the right choice for you. Your job will involve collecting information and determining whether your clients are good candidates for a home loan.
Financial Advisor
A financial advisor gets to deal with many different aspects of clients’ finances, including their real estate investments. In general a financial advisor is available to help clients manage their financial health. This may include making plans for retirement, planning to buy a home, or deciding when to buy and sell their properties, according to US News and World Report.
Portfolio Manager
There are also opportunities to work as a consultant for private investors. As a portfolio manager, you will look for new properties that may be of interest to your clients. It is your role to provide a portfolio of real estate properties that makes your client money. In order to do this, you will need to have your fingers on the pulse when new and desirable properties come onto the market. This career can also be rewarding for someone who prefers a bit of risk, because you may be paid solely on commission (or as a percentage of the income your portfolio brings in).
